Tips For Cleaning Hardwood Floors

Posted on: 17 January 2023

You are lucky if you have nice hardwood floors in your home. However, you might be like a lot of people and have had trouble in the past knowing how to properly clean and care for those floors. Hardwood floors are generally a valuable part of a home and you do not want to cause any damage to them. You also do not want to cause issues because you improperly cleaned them. To help make sure that you are going to be able to get your hardwood floors nice and clean while protecting their value, you will want to use the following advice:

Make Sure You Are Sweeping Or Vacuuming Daily

It is important to first make sure that you are sweeping or vacuuming your hardwood floors daily. This is to remove the little bits of dust, dirt, and other debris from the floors before they end up deeply wedged in between the wood boards. If you decide to vacuum, be sure to use a vacuum that is designed for this type of flooring. You do not want a rough vacuum brush roller to put scratches on the wood.

Mop As Needed

This might be something that you do once a week or a few times a month, depending on how much foot traffic comes through your home and whether you have small kids or pets that tend to be a little on the messy side. However, make sure that the mop is nicely wrung out, meaning that you have squeezed the excess water from it and it is just damp versus soaking wet. You will also need to use a hardwood floor cleaner that was designed for such floors. You do not want to use bleach or any other harsh chemical that could stain your floors or cause them to end up with other damages.

Properly cleaning hardwood floors is important. Take a little time to make a list of some cleaning supplies that you can purchase to make your job a little easier. Also, you will want to make it a point to discuss the proper hardwood floor cleaning techniques with everyone in the house. This way, should they want to help out or need to clean up a spill, they will also know how to properly care for the floors. You wouldn't want to have to replace your floors due to improper cleaning, as the replacement of quality hardwood can be rather expensive and time-consuming.
